Sixty years ago modernization theory, which was very prevalent in U.S. courses in Sociology, Political Science and Geopolitics, claimed that each nation sets its own course in political development. What’s happening right now in Brazil is a good example of how ridiculous that claim is. The core countries in the world are constantly intervening in the politics of other countries. This article shows clearly that the U.S. has intervened in Brazil. At the same time, these interventions are not always successful and national governments have some responsibility for what happens.
