America doesn’t want “your tired and your poor”. They want only your gifted and privileged. This is an excellent article from Al Jazeera that details how racist and classist the U.S. has always been – wanting only those who are “exceptional” and highly skilled. It explains how the American myth of being able to become anything you want to be, regardless of your background, is absurd.
