Often articles about worker cooperatives paint an overly rosy picture. This article shows why more people, for economic reasons, don’t join cooperatives. It describes differences between the accounting practices of non-cooperatives and cooperatives and shows how there are inconsistencies in the principles of cooperatives which add to their problems and hinder their proliferation.
