How could we become so attached to a celebrity we will never meet, whose shelf-life might be five to 10 years, and who doesn’t know or care about our lives? How can it be that during a period of adolescence these celebrities might be more important than one’s own family, relatives or friends? If members of a tribal society during Paleolithic or Neolithic times or even members of Bronze Age Egypt or Mesopotamia had heard about this devotion to celebrities, they wouldn’t believe it.
