Long ago, Marx and Engels argued that development of the productive forces of society, including technology and methods of harnessing energy were necessary for socialism because they create abundance. For socialists, use of artificial intelligence is a boom because it frees workers from repetitive work and allows us to do more creative work. But in capitalist societies, workers have good reason to fear artificial intelligence because it could mean that they would be thrown out of work. In addition, as this article points out, artificial intelligence can be used not only for imperialistic military purposes, but to also control the population.
