While cultural relativism appears to be the opposite of imperialism a deeper look shows how, in spite of its best intentions, cultural relativism unwittingly supports imperialism. Arguing that every culture is unique and imagining that all contact outside of it will be to its determent makes it all the more likely to be invaded by imperialists. This is because it hasn’t strengthened its regional connections which would allow it to fight back. Cultural relativism ignores that some of the greatest progressive developments in history have come when cultures mix.
