Often when a story like this comes out, if you’ve been schooled in modernization theory you might unconsciously think this kind of repression happens in “Third World” countries like Mexico and would not happen in the U.S. However the issues around the privatization of education, blaming teachers instead of lack of investment in education for poor performance is a global phenomenon. One important point, that is also global, is the use of pseudo-left administrations to carry out the repression.
