The Democratic Socialist of America (DSA) has more than doubled their numbers in less than a year. As of May, 2016 the membership was 6,500. As of November 8th it has swelled to 14,000. While this a far cry from the 113,000 members of the Socialist Party in 1912, it is still significant. Our understanding is that as a result of the Democratic primaries the DSA has renounced trying to work within the Democratic Party. Will they stick with this? The organization seems to lack a significant working class base. Can this change? We are partly hopeful and partly skeptical.
