For 45 years identity politics has been used to suggest that based on a unitary “black community” or “Latino community”, all racial minorities lives would be better. This article reveals the failure of identity politics to speak to the needs of working class and poor within their own populations. Identity politics, however has been very good to the economically top 10% of African Americans and Latino Americans. These upper middle classes benefit most from identity politics in universities, trade union bureaucracies and in political parties.
