French Railway Workers’ Union Needs to Change Tactics to Be Successful

This article does a nice job of summarizing the strengths and weaknesses of the French railway workers union, the SNCF. They have been carrying out a “two-for-five rhythm of strike days — that is, two days on strike out of every five days. Going back to April 3, 36 strike days have been scheduled, through to June 28” (Socialist Worker).While it is supported by  the French population, this tactic does not allow for the blocking of traffic for a long enough period of time to create a crisis for French capitalists. Furthermore, the SNCF has not tried to coordinate with other sectors of the working class so they all strike at the same time. As everywhere, workers in rebellion will have to go beyond their unions.
