Economic Nationalism Does Not Work for White Working Class

When white working class people were swayed by Trump’s slogan “Buy American, Hire American”, they were probably imagining post-World War II days when there were plenty of manufacturing jobs that paid good union wages. But as this article points out, when consumers buy American they also assume capitalists will take the profits and invest them in union jobs. It doesn’t work that way. Capitalists will still invest in overseas labor because it is cheaper.
