This article is a wonderful but bruising examination of working class life in the Pacific Northwest from the late 1980s to today. It covers the instability, unpredictability and savagery of what it is like to live from paycheck to paycheck under capitalism. The wear-and-tear of living in crowding apartments, raising a family with no medical benefits are all covered in graphic detail. In spite of everything, the discovery of socialism at least explains why Joe Costello has hope for the situation he is in.
