As many of you know the word “reform” was once a New Deal liberal term for making progressive changes in issuing food stamps, pensions, unemployment. Thanks to the first “black” president, Clinton I, the word reform was used by him to enact slashes to welfare. So this week the Argentine Congress passed “reforms” that raised the age for men and women to collect social security on average by four years. What these myopic market fundamentalists ignore is what any Keynesian will tell you. If people have to work too hard and too long for lower wages they will not have the money to buy the products that pay for the capitalists’ profits.
