On the surface it’s easy to focus on the election of a fascist president and then contend there is something wrong with Brazilians as a cultural group. But this doesn’t address that the fact that the Workers Party did get 45% of the vote. What matters much more is that the Brazilian economy has had problems for 30 years. It is also damning to note how little Lula and Dilma did to stop financial capitalism when they had the power to do so.
