All too often labor unions hold strikes – but they do not build alliances with communities. This results in those communities buying into the press propaganda that they are ‘inconvenienced” when workers, particularly in the public sector, go out on strike. On the other hand, community protests have not not been grounded in labor unions, either. This article shows what can happen when Chicago teachers and Black Lives Matter join forces.
