It is tempting to dismiss people in the United States as being naive, apathetic and ignorant when it comes to politics. While we agree with this characterization when it comes to international affairs we think it is less true about domestic politics about the state and the press. A recent Monmouth University Polling Institute report stated that 74% of Americans across the political spectrum believe that a “deep state” exists and 80% say it spies on Americans. As for the press, 66% of Americans think the press does not do a good job, and this is up 24% from the statistics in 1984.
