According to this article, what Merkel did best was that politically she had integrity. No political scandals, no bridbery charges, no alienation of certain social classes. She advocated for neoliberal flat taxes, and “flexible labor markets”. Her most controversial move was opening up the borders to refugees. But her stances on nuclear energy, the pandemic and education lacked innovation. Germany has fallen a long way from the industrial powerhouse it was 20 years ago.
