Though the Shanghai Cooperation Organization conference would seem to be about economics it is broader than that. It includes mutual security against the West as well as issues of the global south’s political development.
This article highlights China as the center of the new Asian core. There are some interesting contrasts between China and Russia. Â Russia has labor shortages and needs to modernized. Most of Soviet-era industries produce goods to export. Russia is more focused significantly on oil and gas as export products rather than consumer goods.
