In arguments with liberals or conservatives, whenever socialists are confronted with the shortcomings of China, Cuba or North Vietnam they point to Sweden, Norway or Denmark. These are proclaimed to practice socialism in the right way. But the Sweden of today is far from the Sweden from the 1930s to the 1970s. The Swedish Democrats have risen in popularity from 1.4 % in 2002 to 17.5% in 2018. It is hardly far-fetched that after the elections on Sunday they will be the second largest party in Sweden with over 20%.
