Honoring soldiers of Mordor on Memorial Day is way too narrow for a number of reasons. First, narrowing the focus of heroism to a single country hides the fact that US soldiers have killed their own class brothers on the battlefield. Secondly, the emphasis on “honoring” smuggles in a military aristocratic, warrior battle.
What the appeal should be for is mourning the dead, not just those in the US military, but for those killed by the military everywhere. All working-class soldiers are victims of imperialism.
