Despite people having quit the unions and their understaffing, those same unions have a lot of revenue they are not spending. One reason is because of something called “fortress unionism”, which means the cost of organizing workers is perceived to be too high. The author of this article suggests the following constructive uses for the money including: a) hiring 20,000 new organizers; b) boosting the funding for workers’ centers; c) increasing the funding for strikes; and d) funding for civil disobedience when necessary.
Sadly, what the author does not discuss is the amount of spending that it pours into the Democratic Party. That money is hardly a good investment, given its return.
